Governor Scott vetoed the Budget Adjustment Act targeting hotel voucher extensions for the most vulnerable experiencing homelessness as his chief complaint. The hotel extensions accounted for $1.8 M in the state surplus revenue of close to $200 M that was distributed in the Budget Adjustment Act for the final three months of the fiscal year. He offered no viable plan to continue shelter for the elderly, medically and/or physically challenged, and families with children. He calls this "reform" of the hotel "program". We all know the administration has never had a "program" that provides a pathway to stable housing for those experiencing homelessness. State government provided vouchers without support.
"Reform" suggests that something better is being offered in its place. Nothing is being offered! People will be exited on April 1st with no plan and nowhere to go, adding to the many hundreds already unsheltered in our communities.
This is not the way Vermonters treat each other.
Come let your voice be heard!
PS...we may possibly have a press conference (still TBD) but will definitely have some folks going into the House and Senate chamber sessions as well as visiting the Senate Caucuses taking place at noon tomorrow.
